bp-Jio opens its first petrol pump in the country in Mumbai

On Tuesday, a joint venture of billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and energy supermajor BP announce the opening of the first petrol pump that offers multiple fuel options, including EV charging construction.

The two companies, in a joint announcement, said

RBML (Reliance BP Mobility Ltd) launched its first Jio-Bp branded Mobility Station in Navi Mumbai at Navde,

It said.

"Working in a tough pandemic-affected location, Jio-bp is bringing a network of world-class Mobility Station offering multiples fuelling choices to the customers,"

The firms said Jio-bp would provide an unmatched and distinctive customer experience.

The existing petrol pumps of Reliance have been transferred to the joint ventures, which plans to grow them up to 5,500 stations by 2025.

Reliance holds the remaining 51% stakes in RBML. RBML has already received the marketing authorization for transportation fuel.

India's auto fuel retailing is ruled by public sector oil companies that own the majority of 78,751 petrol pumps. RBML already has 1,427 outlets, while Rosneft-backed Nayara Energy has 6,250 pump stations. Shell has 285 petrol pump stations.

The statement said.

"The current network of over 1,400 fuel pump will be rebranded as Jio-bp, presenting a new ranges of customer value proposition over the upcoming months,"

India's markets for fuels and mobility are quickly growing. It is expected to be the fast-growing fuels market in the world over the next 20 decades.

It said.

"Jio-bp Mobility Stations are designed to aid meet the growing demands and are ideally located for customer convenience. They bring together a reach of services for consumers on the move including refreshments & food, EV charging, additivised fuels, and plan to offer more low carbon solutions over time,"

The joint venture plans to leverage Reliance's vast presence and deep experience in consumer businesses across India, with its hundreds of millions of Jio and Reliance Retail customers and bp's extensive global experience in high-quality, convenience, differentiated fuels lubricants, and advanced low carbon mobility solutions.

Jio-bp also set up a network of battery swap stations and EV charging stations at its Mobility Stations and other standalone locations Mobility Points. The joint venture focuses on becoming a leading EV charging infrastructure player in India.

To create unmatched customer experience, exciting new value propositions such as dynamic pricing, instant discounts, happy hour schemes, implementation of flexible and uniform digital payment across the network are also in the offing.
