List of bank holidays in September

List of bank holidays in September

As banks gear up for September, customers must also be preparing for bank holidays that will surface in September.

As per RBI, which released a list of bank holidays, there will be 12 holidays next month. As per the RBI list of bank holidays, lenders can expect to see around seven days off in September that the RBI has mandated. Apart from the RBI-issued holidays, there are six-weekend leaves to take into account. One of the weekends, a second Saturday, overlaps with the official holiday, which brings the tally up to 12 days.

The holidays that the RBI has issued are considered state-wise celebrations, religious holidays, and festival celebrations. However, if official classifications believe, then the list of holidays comes under the bracket of ‘Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act. The other classifications for RBI listing are ‘Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday’ and ‘Banks’ Closing of Accounts.’

The official list of holidays starts on 8 September 2021, with the celebration of ‘Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva,’ which will only occur in Guwahati. However, the complete list of 12 days will start on 5 September, which is the first Sunday of the month. Weekend leaves are the only set of holidays that apply to all banks across India uniformly.
