Veteran Singer Bappi Lahiri passed away at 69 in Mumbai

On Tuesday, Singer-composer Bappi Lahiri passed away at 69 in Mumbai. Due to Obstructive Sleep Apnea, he was ailing and died at CritiCare Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai. Personalities from all life paths paid tribute to Bappi Lahiri, including composer AR Rahman, actors Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar, and PM Narendra Modi.

The late composer’s family released an official statement announcing that his funeral would take place on Thursday. The statement read, “It’s an unfortunate moment for us. The last cremation will take on the arrival of Bappa (his son) from Los Angeles tomorrow mid-morning. We are seeking blessings and love for his soul. We will keep you updated. The statement was signed by his Chitrani Lahiri his wife, Gobind Bansal, children Bappa Rema and Lahiri Lahiri.

CritiCare hospital Dr. Deepak Namjoshi said, “In Jan, Bappi Lahiri was brought into the hospital for a chest infection and OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea). He was admitted here for almost 29 days, including 18 days in the ICU. He then recovered well, and his criterion was stable too, and he was undergoing pulmonary rehabilitation. On Monday, 14 Feb, he was given a discharge. He was stayed at home for about one and half days, and then his health started to worsen, his family called us up, so we rushed to his residence with the ambulance. On Tuesday, He was here around 11:30 pm, and very critical, we tried reviving him, but he ultimately passed away at around 11:40 – 11:45 pm on Tuesday.”

A statement from the hospital, “Bappi Lahiri was suffering from OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) and re-current chest infection. Dr. Deepak Namjoshi handled him. He was hospitalized for 29 days in Criticare Hospital, Juhu. He recovered well and too was discharged home on 15 Feb. However, after a stay at home, his health worsened, and he was brought back to the hospital in a critical health state and succumbed to his illness at about 11:45 pm. He was suffered from a Covid infection last year. He had OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) for the last year. He was admitted on several occasions in Criticare Hospital under treatment of Dr. Deepak Namjoshi and recovered on all occasions.”

In 2021, Bappi Lahiri was admitted to the ICU of the Breach Candy hospital as a pre-cautionary measure after testing positive for the covid. It was reported later that year that the Bappi Lahiri had lost his voice. Bappi Lahiri denied these reports in an Instagram post, writing, “Some media outlets are spreading wrong news about my health, which breaks my heart to hear. By the grace of my well-wishers and fans, I am completely healthy.”
