Ranveer Singh and Kabir Khan's film '83' collects Rs. 12.64 cr. on Day 1

Ranveer Singh and Kabir Khan's film '83' collects Rs. 15.25 cr. on Day 1

Ranveer Singh and Kabir Khan's much-awaited 83 (Hindi) has opened in the expected range as the early estimates suggest an opening day in the field of Rs. 15 to 16 crore. The film has fared well at the theaters. However, it was a no-show at the single screens, which recorded below par occupancy all through the day.

The film has recorded the best collections in Maharashtra and Delhi, whereas the other metros too slowly caught up the pace towards the evening and night shows. The biz benefited from the Christmas eve factor in the cities, and the base is now set for an intense Saturday and Sunday. The opening day collections are a little below the expectations considering that it's among the costliest Hindi films of all time. Still, with the Christmas holidays around the corner, one expects the biz to grow stronger by the day.

The three national chains have contributed around 60% to the total business, whereas the single screens, as mentioned above, stayed low. In fact, in some mass belts, the 2nd Friday collections of Pushpa were higher than the opening day of 83. 83 needs to show a big jump in collections on Saturday and Sunday to put up a healthy weekend.

The opening day biz of 83 was impacted majorly by competition from Spiderman in the metros and Pushpa in the mass belts. Unfortunately, the Covid fear has also started seeping in again, taking a psychological toll on the mindset of cine-going audiences. The cold wave in the north has also resulted in some revenue on day one. Considering all factors, it's still a decent result for 83, and the eyes now are on the weekend as it's a must for this mega-budget film to jump.

The reviews and audience talk seem to be on the positive side for now, specifically in the metros. Aside from the Hindi version, the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada version of 83 has put up an aggregate net of Rs. 1.50 crore approx, taking the overall day one total in the range of Rs. 16 crore plus.
