Maharashtra CM launches National Common Mobility Card

Maharashtra CM launches National Common Mobility Card

In a notable development for commuters in the city, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) introduced the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) on Monday, which can be used for BEST bus services in Mumbai. Later, the National Common Mobility can be used for traveling in metro services, auto-rickshaws, buses, cabs, suburban trains, and other utilities. BEST bus service will also introduce a premium service, wherein people can book bus seats through a mobile application.

On Monday, chief minister Uddhav Thackeray launched NCMC, or common mobility card, at BEST headquarters.

BEST bus service is in talks with the Indian Railways, MMRDA to integrate it with suburban/local train services, metro, and monorail services in Mumbai. It is an offer to be made available for taxis and auto, said BEST officials.

The National Common Mobility card will have an automatic fare collection system, and the amount will be deducted from the wallet that the passenger can access through their smartphones.

Speaking at the launch event, CM said that BEST would keep progressing, and new concepts introduced in Mumbai would be followed everywhere else.

Currently, passengers can purchase the card from the BEST bus depots in Mumbai.

A BEST official said .

“We discuss integrating suburban railways and Mumbai metro with suburban railway authorities. It will be done soon,”

After approval has been granted in later stages, the card can also be used to purchase season railway tickets.

As per BEST officials, some buses will be reserved under the premiums bus service, and passengers can book seats through a mobile app. “Around 100 buses will be dedicated to premium BEST buses, and passengers can book seats on those via mobile app,” said a senior BEST official.

“Presently, students in civic schools can travel by BEST buses for free. Now students in all private schools can travel by buying a pass which will be discounted,” he said. The monthly pass will cost around ₹200 to ₹350.
