Three Kolkata restaurants will get heritage Label

Mocambo, Kwality, and Trincas —will receive the respected Indian Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage tag (Intach). These popular Park Street cafes will have a heritage plaque by the entrances letting passers- know that they have existed for the last six decades and are an expression of the spirit and culture of the city.

Intach awarded them the honor in 2019 December and 13 other Kolkata eateries,

GM Kapur, Intach Calcutta convenor, told reporters in early September.

"Fifteen restaurants had been given the heritage tag but due to the pandemic, the ceremony was delayed. Now that restaurants have opened, we felt it was the right time to celebrate the industry and boost morale,"

Kolkata, The City of Joy's, is historically known as the first three restaurants to receive the honor has been in operation for over 60 years. The menus have remained unchanged, with only a few inclusion over the years.

Both Trincas and Kwality have changed their set menus. Trincas introduced live music performances and a full menu in 1959, and Kwality introduced a range of north Indian delicacies to its menu a few months after operating in 1952. Mocambo, however, has haven't changed, both in terms of decor and menu.

On Mocambo's restaurant menu, the 'H' word can be founding next to some dishes, such as Chicken ala Kiev, Chicken Tetrazzini, and Devilled Crab, which stands for 'Heritage' signifies terms which date back to when the restaurant started in 1956.

The restaurants in Park Street have also been crediting for introducing a group of Indians to Jazz music's wonders and their live performances.

The famous Park Street of Kolkata, which houses all three restaurants, has been widely depicted on television and films. Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan is also known to have a soft corner for this neighborhood and many restaurants in the streets.

Duo Famous College Street sherbet outlet of Paramount and Indian Coffee House is currently in the pipeline to receive their heritage plaques.

The latter is from students and intellectuals in its heyday and continues to be ventured by writers, poets, and filmmakers.

Allen Kitchen, Girish Chandra Dey, Eau Chew, Bhim Nag, KC Das, Nabin Chandra Das, Dilkush, Niranjan Agar, Nakur Chandra Nandy are some of the other iconic eateries waiting for their plaques,
