Bengal CM on 3-day visit to Mumbai to Maharashtra CM

On Tuesday, Mamata Banerjee, chief minister of West Bengal, will be in Mumbai and visit Uddhav Thackeray, chief minister of Maharashtra, and Sharad Pawar, chief of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), during her three-day official visit.

Mamata Banerjee is also scheduled to meet with industrialists in the state on 1st December to invite investments to her home state, news agency PTI reports citing people familiar with a matter in her TMC party.

PTI mentioned a senior party leader as saying on Monday.

“Mamata will be on a three day visit to Mumbai from tomorrow. She will helding meetings with Sharad Pawar NCP supremo and Uddhav Thackeray chief minister of Maharashtra. The Mamata Banerjee also aims to influence investments to the state,”

The meeting with Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar, two of the three coalition partners in the ruling (MVA) Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra, comes among her party’s widening rift with the Congress, which is the third partner in Maha Vikas Aghadi.

Notably, the TMC has skipped an opposition leaders’ meeting called by the Congress ahead of Parliament’s Winter Session on Monday and staged its protests inside Parliament House demanding the Centre to repeal the three contentious farm laws. The Congress held a similar rally, too, led by Sonia Gandhi, president of Congress.

The meeting also holds importance as the TMC is trying to expand its national footprint, with Mamata Banerjee spearheading efforts to unite opposition parties against the BJP ahead of the 2024 general elections in the country. Several leaders joined the TMC recently with the absconding of 12 Congress MLAs in Meghalaya, including the former CM of state’s Mukul Sangma, being recent.

In a recent political visit to Goa too, where her party is contesting the state assembly elections in 2022, famous names, including Leander Paes, a tennis star, were inducted into the party.

According to several news reports, she also invited him to a Global Business Summit held in Bengal next year.
