Bhupendra Patel to be new Chief Minister of Gujarat

On Sunday, Bhupendra Patel, a protege of UP Governor Anandiben Patel, was elected as the new Chief Minister of Gujarat. Bhupendra Patel is an MLA from the Ghatlodia seat earlier held by Anandiben Patel.

Bhupendra Patel has chairman of the Standing Committee of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA). He is a first-time MLA. Earlier, he served as a municipal councilor in Ahmedabad.

In the previous Assembly polls, Bhupendra Patel had won with the most significant margin of 1.17 lakh votes from the Ghatlodia region.

The BJP Gujarat legislature party met earlier in the party headquarter in Gandhinagar to be a new leader to replace Chief Minister Mr. Vijay Rupani, following his sudden resignation on September 11.

Party high command deputed two Central observers Pralhad Joshi and Narendra Singh Tomar. They conducted the legislature party meeting in which a new leader would be electing as CM seat.

As per party sources, the new Chief Minister and the Council of Ministers are likely to be sworn in on Monday.

On Saturday, Mr. Vijay Rupani suddenly submitted his resignation along with his Council of Ministers, paving the way for a long-expected change of safeguards in a Gujarat state.

Among names likely to replace Mr. Vijay Rupani was outgoing Deputy CM Nitin Patel, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and Praful Patel of Administrator of Union Territories of Daman and Diu Lakshadweep, and chief R.C. Faldu, outgoing Cabinet Minister and former State party.

The C.R. Patil’s State BJP president name also figured among the probable, but in the statement, he is ruling himself out, stating that he was not on a list of Chief Ministerial candidates.

Crictism face by Patidar

There was a strong fizz in the party about a likely Patidar face as the new Chief Minister before the following Assembly election years. All top contenders, including Mr. Faldu and Mr. Mandavia, are from the community of Patidar.

In Gujarat, the Patidars are a commanding caste with sizeable control over the political economy. They hold education, lucrative cooperative sector, construction and realty, and medium and small enterprise.

The Patidars forming the backbone of BJP in Gujarat as the party’s first Chief Minister in 1995 when it came to power for the first time was Keshubhai Patel, a Patidar leader from the Saurashtra region.
