Delhi Mumbai Expressway to fetch ₹1,000-1,500 crores revenue per month

Today, union minister Nitin Gadkari said that after the much-anticipated Mumbai-Delhi Expressway becomes functional in 2023, the Centre will get toll income worth per month about ₹1,000 to 1,500 crore.

He told PTI in an interview.

"Once the Expressway is completed and opened for the public, we will get at least ₹1,000-1,500 crores as toll income every month,"

He also said that state-owned NHAI is a "gold mine" for generating more revenue.

Gadkari, who just completed an instant tour to assess the work progress of the Mumbai-Delhi Express that will pass from four states apart from Delhi, said the national highways infrastructure is a world-class success story.

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will likely be completed by March 2023 and will be building as part of the first phase of the 'Bharatmala Pariyojana.'

The expressway has eight-lane, covering states like Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, which expect to cut the commute time between the national capital and the country's financial hub from nearly 24 hours to 12 hours.

A confident Nitin Gadkari also asserted that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) would collect annual toll income to ₹1.40 lakh crore in the next five years from the current level of ₹40,000 crores.

Against all the backdrop of concerns being flagged about NHAI being saddled with a high debt level, the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister pointed out that the nodal agency has received an 'AAA' rating, and all the road projects are very productive and valuable.

AAA' is one of the highest ratings and indicates a solid financial spot.

Gadkari noted.

"NHAI was not in a debt jaw, and it will never be in debt jaw in future. and It is a gold mine, and is on strong foot in coming five years, NHAI toll income will incrase to ₹1.40 lakh crore per year from present toll income of ₹40,000 crore,"

The minister recently informed Rajya Sabha that the total take of NHAI has raised to ₹3,06,704 crore at the end of 2021 March this year from ₹74,742 crores in the year 2017 March.
