Russia and India talks on peace and Afghanistan issue

Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor, and his Russian counterpart Nikolay Patrushev hold the wide-ranging meet in New Delhi on the overcome situation in Afghanistan following its takeover by the Taliban and its security involvement for India, Russia, and the Central Asian region.

The Russian embassy said that the duo discussed the war-ravaged country's military, political, and socio-economic situation.

ANI report said they also touched upon migration and humanitarian problems in Afghanistan and prospects for Russian-Indian joint efforts to create conditions for launching a peaceful settlement process based on an intra-Afghan dialogue.

The report said.

"In addition, both sides agreed to coordinate with a approaches of India and Russia in multilateral formats on Afghan settlement,"

The importance of defining guidelines of the future state structure of Afghanistan by Afghans themselves and the need to prevent the increase of violence -- social, ethnic, and confessional contradictions in the country -- was also emphasizing.

The embassy said that the two countries' top officials also discussed deepening bilateral cooperation in security, emphasizing further interaction on the anti-terrorist track, combating illegal migration and drug trafficking.

They further spoke about intensifying joint work of the two countries' remarkable services and military bodies.

The meeting took place a day after Doval held extensive talks with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) William Burns on the Afghan crisis.

Narendra Modi, Prime Minister, and Vladimir Putin, Russian President had on 24 August discussed the development in Afghanistan and expressed the vision that it was important for the two countries to work together.

On Tuesday, the External Affairs said Patrushev is visiting India at the invitation of Doval for the high-level India-Russia inter-governmental consultations on Afghanistan.

On Monday, Russian envoy Nikolay Kudashev said "ample scope" for cooperation between India and Russia on Afghanistan. Both sides have regularly met with each other on the latest developments in the war-torn country.
