Ready to help Samajwadi if needed for UP Polls: TMC Chief

Following her meeting with PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said she was ready to support the help to Akhilesh Yadav chief Samajwadi Party for next year’s Assembly polls in UP if required.

Banerjee was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

“If Akhilesh want, then we are ready to support our help to him,”

The statement comes when TMC, as part of its pan-India expansion plans, has identified a cut down of states where it wants to gain footprints. The party has identified Goa, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, and Tripura to make in-roads.

Following its massive victory in Assembly elections in West Bengal, the party has seen a steady flow of leaders joining its ranks. Congress leader Kirti Azad, Ashok Tanwar, former Haryana Congress president, and former JD(U) MP Pavan Varma joined the party. They were formally admitted into the party in the presence of CM Banerjee in New Delhi on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Banerjee, who is on a three-day visit to Delhi, said that she met PM Modi and demanded that decision to extend BSF’s jurisdiction in a state be withdrawn.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday afternoon, Akhilesh met Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) national president Jayant Chaudhary in Lucknow to discuss a possible seat-sharing formula. Sources said a formal announcement would be made soon. While the two parties fought the 2017 elections separately, for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the RLD was part of the Grand Alliance with the SP and BSP.

On Wednesday, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh met Akhilesh in Lucknow, after which he said that both the parties are in talks to sign a seat-sharing pact.

Singh told The Indian Express.

“We have started to talks today. Our primary aim is to defeat BJP in UP, which is suffering under the misrule of CM Yogi Adityanath. Akhilesh Yadav is in talks with several parties and our meeting today is also a step in that direction,”
