School in Delhi to re-open from 1st November

After more than eighteen months, all schools in Delhi will be permitted to re-open for all classes, including at the primary level—from 1st November.

Primary and middle school class up to class VIII—have not been opened for even a single day since Delhi shut as a precaution against COVID-19 on 12th March 2020. Schools will open for categories IX to XII, starting January this year, before closing entirely on 9th April because of the second wave pandemic.

They re-opened for classes IX to XII on 1st September, but there had been no approval for the school to open for younger children.

DDMA meeting on Wednesdays, it was decided that all schools—government and private—may be permitted to open for all grades on 1st November.

Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister, said that this opening would be subject to a few conditions. No parents should be forced or pressured to send their children to school, and schools have been guided to make a specific complete vaccine for all staff members, including non-teaching staff.

Sisodia said

“It was informed in DDMA meeting that in all schools 98-99% staff have received at least one vaccine. But now they should expedite the second dose as well and ensure that the few people who haven’t yet received a dose get it,”

Parental consent will be necessary for students to attend school. Schools will be directed to conduct teaching in a hybrid mode for the benefit of students who will opt not to attend school physically. Schools will also have to maintain 50% of their classroom capacity while calling students to school.
