Schools to reopen in Kerala from 1 November

On Saturday Kerala government announced that the schools in the state would reopen from 1 November, news agency ANI reported. Offline classes for standards 1 to 7 (primary section) and 10 and 12 will begin on 1 November and reopen for other courses on 15 November.

Meanwhile, the state government announced that colleges would reopen from 4 October earlier in the day and Schools on 1 November

In an order, Higher Education Department Joint Secretary Sajukumar said classes for the final semesters of degree and post-graduate courses would be starting, strictly stick to COVID-19 health protocol.

It said.

"All institution under the Higher Education department shall start functioning from 4 October,"

The final year PG course will be held with total attendance while it would be 50 percent for last year's degree courses, adding that the college councils can decide the timings as per the space available in the institutions.

The order said.

"The classrooms, laboratories and libraries should be sanitized well before the start of classes and institutions can seek help from the local government bodies worried, health workers or NGOs,"

The order said.

The Kerela government asked the institutional heads to make sure that the students follow strictly COVID-19 health protocols.

"The institutions should make sure availability of adequate number of masks, sanitisers and hand wash facilities. Gatherings should be avoided,"

It also directed the institutions to approach the health department to arrange vaccination drives for students and staff.

Meanwhile, the state on Saturday saw a dip in new COVID-19 cases as 19,352 infections and 143 deaths were reported today. With that, the total affected in the state to 44,88,840 and the toll to 23,439. Kerala had reported 23,260 cases on Friday.

The number of recoveries outnumbered new cases, with 27,266 being cured, bringing the total number to 42,83,963. Active cases stood at 1,80,842.
