Afghanistan prepares for the Pakistan series

The three-match ODI series against Pakistan got set to take place in Hambantota from September 1 to 5.

Afghanistan played cricket since the mid-19th century, but it was only in the early 21st century that the national team enjoyed success.

Azizullah Fazli got set to be re-establish as the chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB). Azizullah Fazli had headed the Afghanistan cricket board till 2019, including during the World Cup in the United Kingdom, and will take over from Farhan Yousefzai.

As per the ACB constitution, the country's President is the Patron-in-Chief, and the chairman is the head of the board. However, the central authority is the CEO for all practical purposes, and he takes care of cricket operations and management. The current CEO of the board is Dr. Hamid Shinwari.

ACB officials are hopeful about cricket in the strife-torn nation and are focused on the upcoming bilateral series against Pakistan in Sri Lanka. The three-match ODI series, which got shifted from the UAE, is set in Hambantota from September 1 to 5.

The Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC), in principle, has agreed to permit the venue, but the ACB is still awaiting approval.

It understands that if the series doesn't go ahead for some reason, the dates of Shpageeza Cricket League, Afghanistan's domestic T20 competition held in Kabul, could be advanced.

Regarding preparation for the Pakistan series, Afghanistan has already held two skill development camps recently, one for 15 days and another for 14 days. They also have their eyes set on the T20 World Cup later in the year.
