Ahmedabad IPL team to be called Ahmedabad Titans

The IPL 2022 mega auction is around the corner. This year’s Indian Premier League will be a 10-team affair introducing two new franchises- Lucknow and Ahmedabad.

While Lucknow has already given the name to their new team as Lucknow Super Giants with the Indian limited-overs vice-captain KL Rahul as the skipper, Ahmedabad has also come up with a recent team name days before the two-day bidding event in Bengaluru.

Having appointed star India and Mumbai Indians all-rounder Hardik Pandya as their captain, the Ahmedabad-based franchise has come up with a unique name for the side for the 15th edition of the marquee tournament. They have decided to name the new franchise Ahmedabad Titans. Although any official announcement is yet to come, this development is all over the internet.

Meanwhile, IPL 2022 is set to be a grand affair as for the very first time since 2011, 10 teams are set to ply their trade in the competition. The Ahmedabad Titans are concerned, all-rounder Hardik Pandya will lead the team, while Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill are the two players picked by the franchise ahead of the bidding event.

All teams were allotted a massive purse of INR 90 crore. With Ahmedabad retaining three capped players, they have been left with a purse of INR 52 crore. Hence, they’ll have the onus to build a formidable team in the auction. Meanwhile, the bidding event will be in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13.

As many as 590 players – 370 Indians and 220 overseas – are set to go under the hammer, and all ten franchises would be busy brainstorming. With a mega auction being on schedule, the eight existing teams could retain a maximum of just four players. While some tried keeping their core, others saved money for a revamp in the auction event. Meanwhile, the two new teams picked three players apiece from the list of non-retained players.

This means all ten teams will step into the auction with a different purse amount, and it would be interesting to see how the finalized squads would look. Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has planned to kick-start IPL 2022 in the last week of March.
