Ben Stokes to be New Test Captain for England Men Team

England appointed Ben Stokes as the new Test captain following Joe Root's resignation earlier this month.

Ben Stokes said.

"I am very esteem to be given a chance to captain the England Test team. This is a privilege, and I'm very excited about getting starting this summer,"

"I want to thank Root for everything he has done for English Cricket and always being an ambassador for the sport worldwide. He has been a part of my development as a leader in the team dressing room, and he will continue to be an important ally for me in this role."

Stokes, who made his Test debut in December 2013, has played 79 red-ball games for England. He was named vice-captain in February 2017 and stood in as captain when Joe Root was absent for the second child in the summer of 2020.

The Durham allrounder has scored 5061 Test runs at an average of 35.89 and claimed 174 wickets with the ball.

Stokes's appointment, which makes him the 81st captain of the England Men's Test team, was approved on Tuesday evening by the ECB Interim Chair and Chief Executive Officer Tom Harrison following the Managing Director of England Men's recommendation Cricket, Rob Key.

He added.

"I had no uncertainty in offering the role of Test captain to Ben Stokes," Rob Key said. "He represents the mentality and approach we want to take this English team forward into the next age of red-ball cricket. I am glad that he has accepted, and he is ready for the added responsibility and the honor. He thoroughly deserves the opportunity,"

"I am glad that Ben stokes has agreed to become England Men's Test captain, which is another great achievements in his extraordinary career in an England shirt," Harrison said. "He cares deeply and passionately about representing England and he will lead us into a new era with great pride. It's an important summer for our Test side and Ben will I am sure relish the challenge before him and his team."
