Big Player Like Archer, Root, Starc, and Stokes to Skip IPL auction 2022

Mitchell Starc, Jofra Archer, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes have decided to skip this year's Indian Premier League. The Big star players, big names in international cricket, have opted not to enroll for the mega-auction held on February 12,13.

Joe Root had previously declared that he would have to give up IPL for England and England Test cricket, but the absence of Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, and Mitchell Starc was a surprise. More than 1214 players have made it to the first list of the auction register shared with the IPL franchises on Friday night on 21st January.

Some of the big international players who have made themselves available are Faf du Plessis (Australia, Rs 2 crore), de Kock (South Africa, Rs 2 crore), Pat Cummins (Australia, base price Rs 2 crore), Mark Wood (England, Rs 2 crore), Steve Smith (South Africa, Rs 2 crore) and David Warner (Australia, Rs 2 crore). One of the fastest bowlers, Mark Wood, was a leading absentee from last year's Ipl auction.

The trio pace of South Africa Kagiso Rabada (Rs 2 crore), Marco Jansen (Rs 50 lakh), and Lungi Ngidi (Rs 50 lakh), who tormented India in the just-concluded Test series, have registered for the auction, likely to be held in Bangaluru. The BCCI has not mentioned the dates and venue of the auction in the mail.

D Bravo (Rs 2 crore) has put his name up, and also another big name missing from the list is Gayle. Since its inception, the Jamaican has been a regular feature in the IPL. Still, the West Indies veteran, who is undoubtedly near the autumn of his international career, may have realized the diminishing batting returns. The Curran brothers - Sam and Tom - are other glaring absentees on the list, but as one understands, both will be out of action during IPL (April-May) due to injuries.

Among the Indians are A-listers like R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shikhar Dhawan, Dinesh Karthik, and Shardul Thakur. They all are in the top INR 2 crore reserve price bracket. Former Chennai Super Kings stalwarts Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, and Robin Uthappa are also in the two-crore category, just as Mohammed Shami.
