Bubble breach to attract strict sanctions in IPL 2022

The BCCI seems to be cracking the whip on the Covid offenders in the IPL. The breaching of protocols by players and team officials during IPL 2022 will attract severe sanctions, ranging from a one-match suspension to seven-day quarantine to exclude from the tournament. A bubble breach by family members of a player or match official will have even more severe sanctions.

More strict, if a team wilfully allows an outsider into the team bubble, it could face punishment up to Rs 1 cr for the first lapse, and subsequent mistakes could lead to deductions of one or two points from the team tally.

In Table A of punishments, it has stated that the sanctions for the bubble breaches by a player, match official, or a team official will be:

First offense - 7-day quarantine or such other period as may be provided in the Health & Safety Protocols during IPL 2022

Second offense - One match suspension (without pay) to take effect after the completion of the seven-day quarantine or such period quarantine as may be provided in the Health & Safety Protocols during IPL 2022 (without pay)

Third offense - Removal from the Registered Squad for the rest of the season - no replacement allowed.

Family member:

First offense -7-day quarantine for the family member or such other period quarantine once again as may be fed in the Health & Safety Protocols during 2022 and 7-day quarantine for the relevant Player, Match Official or Team Official or such other period quarantines as may be provided in the Health & Safety Protocols during IPL 2022

Second offense -permanent removal of the friend or family member from the bubble for the rest of the season and 7-day quarantine for the concerned Player, Match Official or Team Official or such other period quarantines as may be provided in the Health & Safety Protocols during IPL 2022.

What Other sanctions are:

Any team cannot field playing 11 teams for any match due to less than 12 Players available, 11 in the playing XI (of which at least seven must be Indian), plus one substitute player.

Sanction: BCCI, at its wish, will attempt to re-schedule the match for later in the season; if it's not possible, the issue will be referred to the Technical Committee of IPL. The decision of the Technical Committee will be final and binding.
