IPL Media Rights Tender to be released Soon

In February, the Indian Cricket Board BCCI in India will release the much-awaited MEDIA RIGHTS Tender to sell IPL’s following five-year media rights. According to well-placed sources, the Indian Cricket Board is looking to complete the sales process before IPL 2022. As reported earlier, the global financial consultants firm KPMG has almost finalized the process of sales of rights & tender will strike the market 2nd or 3rd week of February

E-Auction or Closed Bids? The sources on board informed InsideSport that the board & their consultants are inclined towards the E-Auction process to sell media rights.

Indian Cricket Board BCCI had earlier employed the same process for the sale of India Cricket & BCCI’s Title Sponsorship rights & the results were fantastic. The Indian Cricket Board is likely to again opt for E-AUCTION to sell IPL Media Rights for 2023 to 2027.

Top BCCI official said

“Nothing is finalized as such, but e-auction provided good result for the sale of Bilateral media rights. We feel e-auction is a correct way to go & can drive best possible value for the rights”,

In 2017, the IPL rights were sold through closed bids. Star India (now part of Disney) outbid Sony Network & others to acquire the rights for Rs 16,347 crore.

BCCI is now expecting a 35,000 to 40,000 Crores bid, an almost 150 percent hike from the last value of rights sold.

“Sale of two franchises was phenomenal with 12,000 Crore. Fingers crossed, we should get around 40,000 crores plus from the IPL Media Rights.”,

recently Board President Ganguly shared light on his expectations from Media Rights.

Though the rights were bought in 2020, Amazon started the cricket streaming services only with the Bangladesh tour of New Zealand 2022.

According to the well-placed sources, the world’s leading e-commerce company is likely to eye the forthcoming IPL Media Rights Tender.

Amazon’s entry will further add up the IPL Bidding race. The access to Reliance Viacom 18’s soon-to-be-launched sports channel has made the IPL Media Rights race very interesting.
