Jaskaran Malhotra hit Six Sixes in the final Over of the match

Jaskaran Malhotra blasted his way into record books by becoming only the 4th international player overall in 2nd in ODIs to smash six sixes in an over. He finds himself on the elite list with Yuvraj Singh, Kieron Pollard, and Herschelle Gibbs to achieve the fancy.

Jaskaran hit six sixes in the final over of the USA innings proved to be the perfect epilogue for swashbuckling innings of 173* off 124 balls. Malhotra's effort would also go on to become the highest individual score at number 5 in ODIs.

He immortalized PNG's Gaudi Toka in the record books and Stuart Broad, Daan Van Bunge, and Akila Dananjaya, albeit infamously. Toka got pummeled over long-on off a length ball on middle and leg swatted over the extra cover fence off an attempted wide off the crease yorker, and clubbed over a whole ball on the off stump in his first three deliveries. The barrage of sixes made Toka go around the wicket, but Malhotra was up to the task shimming across outside his off-stump bludgeoning one over long-on. Toka switched to over the entrance for the final two deliveries. But Malhotra, who was in a complete zen mode, now went down on one knee. Cross batted a straight six on the fifth ball. Toka, ultimately swayed over by the enormity of the occasion, buckled under pressure and bowled a juicy full toss on Malhotra's hip on the sixth ball, which the batsman duly put away over the square leg fence.

Malhotra came into bat with the USA precariously placed at 27 for 3 in the 10th over.

After making a comeback into the national squad after two years, Malhotra made a cautious start. He struck his first 16 sixes off his 15th ball with a full loft over mid-off's head. He brought his 50 off 48 balls with back-to-back sixes off PNG captain Assad Valla.

Malhotra continued to go on his merry ways with the bat even as wickets started tumbling from the other end. He brought up his hundred in the 45th over off his 102nd delivery, eventually haul 73 in his last 22 deliveries. The USA notched up 271 for 9 in their 50 overs. The PNG outfit looked amazed by Malhotra's assault and sunk to a 134-run defeat later on.

Records tumbled in Muscat as Malhotra also crowned himself as the first centurion in ODI cricket for the USA in their 17th ODI overall. It's a testimony to his fitness that he pulled off these marathon innings in sweltering heat in Oman. Batting in an ODI after two years, Malhotra clearly showed the way to the rest of the batters, going on to score more than 60% of the total runs for his side.

The USA now plays Nepal and Oman in the World Cup League 2 tri-series from September 13.
