Krunal Pandya resigns as Baroda's captain

Krunal Pandya Baroda All-rounder has decided to resign as Baroda team captain from the forthcoming domestic season. The 30-year-old informed (BCA) the Baroda Cricket Association president Pranav Amin through email on Friday evening.

In his email, Pandya wrote,

"This is to put on data that I will be unavailable to captain Baroda in the current season. but, I will be available for selection to play for team. I will offer my best as a member and player for Baroda cricket. My contribution and support will always be in the best interest of a team."

Under Krunal captaincy, the team had a disappointing run recently in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where they finished last in the bottom in Group B. The team won only one game in five matches and failed to qualify for knock-outs for the domestic T20 tournament.

Krunal Pandya scored 87 runs in the five games with one-half century and took five wickets at the economy rate of 5.94. This came under new coach Dav Whatmore, whose tenure at the team got off to a saddening start.

It is understood that Baroda Cricket Association will now appoint veteran Kedar Devdhar as captain. At the same time, left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt is likely to be selected vice-captain of the team for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, which is scheduled to be played forthcoming month. Kedar Devdhar had previously captained the team to the final last year in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Krunal Pandya took over as captain two seasons ago, but his time as captain was a ruin by a few disputes.

Last year, Deepak Hooda, who moved to Rajasthan, had written an email to Baroda Cricket Association where he had made a series of claims about Krunal Pandya after a spat with an MI player.

Deepak Hooda, who represented Kings XI Punjab in the IPL, wrote.

"At the moment, I am depressed, demoralised and under pressure. As from the few days, my team captain Mr Kurnal Pandiya is using wrong language towards me in front of my teammate and also other state team who have come for participation at Reliance Stadium Vadodara,"

Deepak Hooda later decided to move on from BCA and represented Rajasthan this season.
