Eintracht Frankfurt beat Rangers FC in a shootout to win Europa League Final

On Wednesday, the German club ended its title drought with a penalty shootout win over Rangers in the Europa League final.

Eintracht Frankfurt's Club's 42-year wait for a European trophy is over.

Kevin Trapp, a Goalkeeper, came up with a big save at the end of extra time and another shootout to help give Eintracht Frankfurt the 5-4 win on penalties. The match ended 1-1 after regulation and more time.

Rafael Borré, Colombia striker, who scored a second-half equalizer for Eintracht Frankfurt, converted the decisive penalty to secure the club's first European trophy after the 1980 UEFA Cup, a predecessor to the Europa League. The win is also the first to appear in the Champions League next season for Eintracht Frankfurt.

"It feels incredible,"

Kevin Trapp said.

"I'm trying to catch my breath still. For us, for Eintracht Frankfurt, for the region. For our country, I think it's an awesome thing. To give back to our football club fans this way is so special."

Kevin Trapp, a former PSG goalkeeper, made an important save in the final minutes of additional time by extending out a leg to stop a close-extent shot by Kent. The goalkeeper used his left leg to stop Aaron Ramsey's penalty in the shootout, setting off big celebrations by Frankfurt's "white wall" of fans behind the opposite goal.

There were also savage celebrations in Germany as Eintracht Frankfurt fans packed the club's stadium to watch a final.

Joe Aribo gave Rangers guide in the 57th minute, and Borré made equal in the 69th for Eintracht Frankfurt, which became the third team to go through the Europa League unbeaten after Chelsea in 2019 and Villarreal in 2021.

The former Arsenal and Juventus midfielder Ramsey entered the match in the last minutes of extra time to be in the shootout. Filip Kostic, Ajdin Hrustic, Daichi Kamada, and Christopher Lenz also converted penalties for Frankfurt. At the same time, James Tavernier, Steven Davis, Scott Airfield, and Kemar Roofe found the net for the Rangers in the shootout.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Rangers coach, said Kent's miss made the final difference.

He said.

"You have to fianl score those, especially in the last moments,"

Rangers were trying to win their first European title since the Cup Winners' Cup in 1972. The Rangers also lost to Zenit St. Petersburg in the 2008 UEFA Cup. It was trying to cap a comeback ten years after being sent to the lower divisions because of a financial meltdown.

"It will be a painful one to take," Rangers midfielder said. "We know how very tough it will be to get to this stage again."

Eintracht Frankfurt will return to the European competition after 1960 when it lost in European Cup final to Real Madrid in Glasgow.

Tuta Brazilian footballer, had to be substituted after getting injured in the incident. It was Aribo's first Europa League goal this season.
