The club Bengaluru FC extended a footballer’s deal till 2023 for Sunil Chhetri

Sunil Chhetri is an Indian professional footballer who plays as a striker or winger and captains both the Indian Super League side Bengaluru FC and the Indian national football team.

“It feels just like yesterday that I signed for the first time for Bangaluru FC, and I have to state that this journey has been nothing short of special,” said Sunil Chhetri.

“We have got Chhetri, Sunil Chhetri,” set forth Bengaluru Football Club on Twitter on June 20, as the Indian footballer’s tenure with the team has extended till 2023.

The Bengaluru FC said that its captain Sunil Chhetri said a new deal would keep him with the team for more than two years.

With the new agreement, his stint with Bengaluru FC will continue into the tenth season in the club.

The declaration said that Chhetri had joined Bengaluru FC in 2013 and had made 203 appearances for the club.

Chhetri had scored 101 goals during this period. Chhetri led the club since its created in 2013 and has topped the goal-scoring charts in eight seasons with Bengaluru.

“I am thrilled to sign on for two more years for Bengaluru FC. The city is like home now, and the individuals at this club are like family to me. It makes me feels like yesterday that I signed for the first time, and I have to say the journey has nothing short of remarkable. I love this club Bengaluru FC, the supporters, and the city, all three of which I have a powerful bond. I am looking ahead to being part of many more excellent moments with them,” said Sunil Chhetri after completing formalities for the extension.

In 2013 Chhetri had led the Bengaluru team to their first league title; he has won five more trophies for the Federation Cup in 2015 and 2017, the Super Cup in 2018, and Indian Super League(ISL) in 2018 and 2019.

Sunil Chhetri was honored with the Padma Shri title, India’s fourth-highest civilian honor in 2019, and he has named Asian Football Confederation’s Asian Icon in 2018.
