All the teams would have to deal with "a special situation" to complete Euro 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Said UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin to AFP on Friday.

Ceferin said in Rome,

It's not the usual Euro games because it's in 11 countries, and on top of it, there's a pandemic which makes traveling even more difficult. So every team will have to cope up with an exceptional situation to finish this Euro 2020.

After postponing the tournament for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The 24-team spread across 11 venues throughout Europe gets underway.

On Friday, with Italy facing Turkey, an estimated 16,000 fans in a Stadio Olimpico filled to around a quarter of capacity.

Ceferin remains confident the tournament will continue without disruption until the final at Wembley on July 11. Despite positive Covid-19 tests for Spain, Sweden, and Russia squads in the days building up to the kickoff.

The 53-year-old Slovenian said,

I don't think matches will get postponed.
I think that the 'bubbles' will be very strict; our health agreement is rigorous.
Even the officials at the tournament who are already vaccinated also have to be tested for COVID-19 before every match.
We are all very much in safe hands, the players, even more; I think it's quite the safest tournament.
Of course, you never know if any case happens during matches, but I'm optimistic that everything will be fine.

The decision to postpone last year was the right one, he believes, given that the tournament would have played in empty stadiums the previous year.
