The world's first tech started hearing about Wi-Fi 6 in 2018 when Wi-Fi Alliance revealed the next generation Wi-Fi based on 802.11ax tech. Presently, not many devices support Wi-Fi 6. Samsung Galaxy Notes and Apple iPhone 11 are two known smartphones that support Wi-Fi 6. Recently, we have seen Wi-Fi 6 routers coming out in the market.

Some of the main benefits of Wi-Fi 6 devices are faster speeds, increased throughput, and better users experiences. They work better in a higher-density environment, enhance the battery life of compatible devices and support the capacity of devices. They also boost higher data transfer rates than their predecessors.

How Is Wi-Fi 6 Different?

The new generation Wi-Fi 6 can have a maximum throughput of 9.6 Gbps across various channels, comparing to 3.5 Gbps on Wi-Fi 5. They understood that Wi-Fi 6 capable routers could hit speeds more than 250% faster than Wi-Fi 5 devices.

Beamforming allows a router to target a specific device rather than broadcasting signals throughout the network, resulting in a stable and faster Wi-Fi connection.
